Prof. Shankar Narayana Rao did his M.Com from Bangalore University in the year 1975 and joined as an Accounts Officer in a private Rubber Factory in Bangalore. Later he joined as a Lecturer in Commerce in a private college in Bangalore. He retired as the Principal of the College after serving the institution for a period of 39 years. He worked in different capacities in various committees such as Disciplinary Committee, NSS Committee, NAAC Committee, IQAC Committee, Sports Committee, Examination Committee, etc. He served as NSS officer for a period of over 10 years. He was instrumental in the service allocation of lecturers working in different institutions run by the management to PU and UG courses based on the order of the Government of Karnataka in the year 2000.

Courses handled :
During his 42 years of service, he taught students of PUC, B.Com., B.B.M., M.Com., MBA., CA, ICWA, ACS, M.Sc (Industrial Management), M.Sc., (Information Technology), MCA He was a visiting faculty for more than 10 years for CAIIB (part I and part II examinations) conducted by the Indian Institute of Bankers, Mumbai. He was appointed as the resource person for more than 10 years by the Directorate of Backward Classes and Minorities (now called as the Backward Classes Welfare Department), Government of Karnataka to train the candidates aspiring for Class I and Class II Gazetted Officer’s post in the Government. He was appointed as the resource person by the Director of Public Instructions, Government of Karnataka to train High School teachers in Commercial Arithmetic and Basics of Accounting.

Additional Responsibilities :
He worked as NAAC coordinator for 2 terms, i.e., in 2005 and in 2012 and was responsible for accreditation of his college. He also guided more than 10 colleges in the process of NAAC assessment and accreditation. He actively assisted in pay fixation of the college teachers for implementing the VI pay revision to University and College Teachers in Karnataka in the year 2009.
He served as a Member of the Board of Examiners, a Member of the Board of Studies, Deputy Custodian, Chief Examiner and Paper Setter, Reviewer and Assistant Examiner of Bangalore University Examinations.
He served as the General Secretary of the Bangalore University Teachers’ Council of Commerce and Management and organised three Refresher Courses for the benefit of more than 200 lecturers working in different colleges spread over Karnataka. He also served as the Ex-officio General Secretary of the Federation of Teachers’ Councils of Commerce and Management in Karnataka. He was also a member of the Indian Accounting Association.
He served as the Member of the Board of Examiners, Sri Sathya Sai University and also a member of the Board of Examiners of Karnataka State Open University. He served as the External Examiner of Annamalai University and University of Mysore.

Research Publications, paper presentation, seminars/workshops attended :
During his service period he has organised many seminars/workshops, refresher courses, national seminars. He attended many national/international conferences, seminars and workshops. He also presented papers in such conferences. He assisted more than 10 research scholars in data analysis and interpretation.
His book “Vyavaharika Ganitha” (a book in Kannada Medium on the subject Business Mathematics) was published by the Directorate of Distance Education, Bangalore University, Bangalore for the benefit of students appearing for B.Com degree examination and opting to write the examination in Kannada Medium.
Prof. Shankar Narayana Rao is now working as the Principal of Don Bosco Institute of Management Studies & Computer Applications.
