Machine Shop


A machine shop is a room, building, or company where machining is done by using machine tools and cutting tools to make parts, usually of metal or plastic. A machine shop can be a tool room, a job shop or a portion of a factory, where the parts produced can be the end product of the factory, to be sold to customers in the machine industry, the car industry, the aircraft industry, or others.

Our machine shop is equipped with different machine tools that facilitates in learning activities that are related to manufacturing process. This lab gives detailed information about all the machine tools like lathe, shaper, milling machine, surface grinding machine and radial drilling machine, the cutting tool materials, tool nomenclature of a single point cutting tool and safety practices in machine shop. Using lathe we can perform operations like plain turning, taper turning, facing, thread cutting .eccentric turning and knurling. Using shaper we can carry out operations like V-groove, dovetail groove and rectangular groove and using milling machine cutting of spur gear can be performed.

By end of the course the students are able to develop the skills of using cutting tools and various metal cutting operations.
