Material testing is a well-established technique used to determine the physical and mechanical properties of raw materials and components from a human hair to steel, composite materials and ceramics. To meet the challenges posed in testing a wide diversity of materials, Lloyd Instruments offers a comprehensive range of high performance materials testing machines, designed to make accurate and repeatable force measurements. Materials testing machines are suitable for use in quality control, production, laboratory, R&D or education. A mechanical test shows whether a material or part is suitable for its intended application by measuring properties such as elasticity, tensile strength, elongation, hardness, fracture toughness, impact resistance, stress rupture and the fatigue limit. The data thus obtained can be used in specifying the suitability of materials for various applications—e.g., building or aircraft construction, machinery, or packaging.
The laboratory is equipped with Universal Testing Machine (UTM), Torsion testing machine, Fatigue machine, Hardness testing machines (Rockwell, Brinell and Vickers), Impact testing machine (Izod and charpy), Pin on Disc wear testing machine, Non destructive testing machines, Metallurgical Microscope, etc. Using the above equipments we can determine various properties such as Tensile Strength, Compressive strength, Flexure/Bending Strength, Shear Strength, Ductility, Impact strength, fatigue strength, hardness and microstructure of different materials.
On completion of this course students will be able to identify the microstructures, test the mechanical properties of the different engineering materials and able to select the materials for the appropriate design/applications.
