Logic Design Lab


Digital Electronics Laboratory is intended to make students familiar with different types of designs such as sequential logic circuits, combinational logic circuits, trouble shooting of various digital systems & study of various digital systems. For years, applications of digital electronics were confined to computer systems. Today digital electronics are applied in many diverse areas such as telephony, data processing, radar, navigation, military systems, medical instruments, process controls etc. In this laboratory students are introduced with digital ICs and their specifications and are skilled with practical digital circuit design.

Facilities available

In this laboratory there are sufficient number of working benches (nearly 10), so that the students can work comfortably. Each of the benches are fully equipped with

Course Objectives



To verify functioning of various logic gates & Design and implement logic gates using universal gates.
Students can realize Half and Full Adder & subtractor using universal gates
The above exercise shall make the students competent in Parallel Adder& Subtractor 7483 Chip and excess-3 to BCD conversion
Students will able to describe and analyze the binary and gray conversion logic circuit
Students will able to describe Mux and DEMUX by using of 74153, 74139
Arithmetic circuits & Code converter circuits using MUX
Design of Comparators
Students will able to construct and analyze the decoder using 7447
Students will able to construct and analyze truth table of J-K,T, D flip flop
The above shall make the students competent in realizing of 3 bit counter as sequential circuit and Mod N counter
The above shall make the students competent in performing Shift Left, Shift Right, SISO, SIPO, PISO, PIPO operations using 7495
Students will understand the verification of ring and Johnson counters
Students will understand the verification of Sequence Generator.


Course Outcomes



Able to design simple combinational logics using basic gates & to optimize simple logic using Karnaugh maps.
Able to design Half and Full Adder using universal & Basic gates.
Students should be able to apply knowledge of the logic design course to solve problems of designing of control units of different input/output devices.
Students will be able to design different binary and gray conversion & vice versa conversions
Students should be able to apply knowledge of the logic design course to solve problems of designing of control units of different input/output devices..
Students will able to construct, analyze, verify, and troubleshoot digital circuits
Appropriate techniques and test equipment of 1bit and 2-bit comparator
Students will Understand verification of priority encoder
Students will get Familiar with basic sequential logic components: SR Latch, D Flip-Flop
The Master-Slave SR Flip-Flop and its limitations & Edge Triggered Flip-flop
Students will be able to design the counter of any sequence
Students get exposure to synchronous and asynchronous counters
Students get exposure to Shift Left, Shift Right, SISO, SIPO, PISO, PIPO operations using 7495
Students will be able to construct, analyze, verify, and troubleshoot digital circuits using appropriate techniques and test equipment of ring and Johnson counters
The exercise shall make the students competent in wiring & testing of Sequence Generator
